Driller's Assistant/Rocktools Technician

Salary: $40 - 42 per Hour

Position Summary

As our Driller's Assistant, you will support our customers' Drillers in underground drilling operations. This includes site preparation, equipment handling, managing drill consumables, supporting sample recovery, and ensuring compliance with WHS standards. The role is physically demanding and safety-critical. You will be based in Kalgoorlie but required to travel to mine sites within the Kalgoorlie and Goldfields region.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assist with the setup and operation of underground drilling equipment hammer products and bits.

2. Handle drill rods, core barrels, casing, and associated tooling underground

3. Support consumables, water and mud supply, and general site housekeeping

4. Collect and accurately label core samples

5. Assist with the maintenance and cleaning of equipment

6. Comply with site safety policies, procedures, and instructions

7. Perform pre-start inspections and report hazards

8. Operate basic machinery and vehicles as required (e.g., underground loaders, light vehicles)

9. Complete shift reports and assist with logistical needs underground

Required Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

• Physically fit and capable of performing repetitive manual tasks

• Minimum 1 year of experience in underground or surface drilling, mining, or a similar field

Experience in either underground or surface drilling operations is acceptable for this position.

• Valid Manual Driver's Licence (C Class required; HR preferred)

• Able to pass drug and alcohol screening, police check, and pre-employment medical

• Comfortable working in confined spaces and at depth

• Must be an Australian citizen or hold full working rights in Australia

Desirable:

• White Card (Construction Induction)

• First Aid / CPR Certification

• Confined Space & Working at Heights certification

• High-Risk Work Licence (e.g., forklift, dogging)

• Based in or willing to relocate to the Kalgoorlie area

Work Conditions

• Underground environment with high heat, noise, and dust exposure

• Use of PPE required at all times

• Manual handling and strenuous physical activity

• Operations within active mine sites
